- Abstract
- Scene depicting several fakirs, brahmans, and lay practitioners of Hinduism and other Indian religions. Most of the fakirs are depicted as nude, or nearly nude, with long hair and beards, engaging in various activities. The brahmans are seated in discussion. Lay people perform acts of charity such as feeding the fakirs by hand and leaving them food, or sit in consultation with the brahmans. In the background are several temples, two of which are dedicated to the Hindu deity Rama. The scene unfolds in a densely wooded area underneath a banyan tree.
